How we work a request
We check the match before we quote.
Most of what comes back in this trade does not fit. On a recent enquiry for a main engine lube oil pump, three dealers quoted against the same nameplate. All three offered a different displacement from the plate. Two of the three offered the opposite direction of rotation. We read that off the type codes on their own plates.

Send the nameplate photo
The plate carries the article number, the type code and the name of the company that made the part. On most engines the part is not made by the engine builder, and the plate is the only place that says who did.

We read the type code field by field
Against the maker’s own type key: size, displacement, flange, shaft end, relief valve, direction of rotation. The same family in another size is not a drop-in, and we say so before you order rather than after.

You get the match in writing
Every line states what it is and what it fits. Where the fit turns on a detail only the maker can confirm, we get that confirmation before the money moves.

Reconditioned or used
Overhauled units and parts off running engines, with the plate photographed and the hours stated. Normal in this trade when a vessel is waiting, and always labelled as what it is.
